Cluster Headaches are not “headaches.” This neurological condition is a form of Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalalgia which causes severe one-sided attacks of sharp, ice-pick type pain anywhere from 1 up to 12 times a day, lasting 15 minutes to 3 hours each. Nicknamed “Suicide Headaches,” this disease is known to be one of the most painful conditions known to man. The most effective treatment is high-flow oxygen through a non-rebreather mask, but the National Institute of Health has yet to classify oxygen therapy for cluster headaches, leaving many sufferers paying hundreds each month or going without.
This 5k run/walk is to raise awareness for this horrific condition, and 100% of the profits will go towards cluster headache research. The race will begin just off of Shelter A on High Line Canal Trail in Centennial, Colorado at 8 AM on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Registration begins at 7:30, and early registration pickup will be on Friday, June 16, 2017, from 4 pm to 7 pm at 24 Hour Fitness (6839 S. Vine St. Centennial, CO 80122).
Oxygen tanks will be available for participants with cluster headaches, but you must bring your own mask. There will be refreshments available and aid stations placed along the route. We will have a raffle at 10 am following the end of the 5k. We welcome participants of all ages. There is also a playground a few hundred feet from the shelter.
